Rod Wallace got United off to a brilliant start when he scored after only forty seconds but Rotherham were also quick in replying with Shaun Goater getting the ball in the net for the equalizer after just four minutes, but that was the end of the scoring. Paul Beesley replaced Gary Kelly at Right Back for the start of the second half and Kevin Sharp replaced inside right Brian Deane in the seventy-eighth minute. For Rotherham, John McGlashin replaced Shaun Goodwin at inside right at half time and Mark Monington came on for Shaun Goater at inside left after seventy-eight minutes. The referee was Steve Lodge (Barnsley).
